Eggnog is more of a grandma’s drink but I never used to drink it in my family. It is in fact an American friend who made me discover it for my greatest pleasure.
The other day, I had some egg yolks left at home and since I was with the kids, I suggested that I make them an eggnog. My kids really like spices like nutmeg and cinnamon so I thought they would like it. Well, they loved it and haven’t stopped asking me for it since that day… 😉
Eggnog {homemade recipe}
What is eggnog?
It is a sweet and spicy (not hot) hot drink that is usually consumed at Christmas or Thanks Giving in North America but that can be enjoyed with great pleasure throughout the winter. It is a drink made of milk, sugar, egg yolk, spices (nutmeg and/or cinnamon…), and a touch of alcohol (brandy, rum, bourbon, whisky…). I put some in my glass, but not my children’s, of course 😉 For the most greedy, you can even add cream with the milk, but it becomes very rich.
You can serve this eggnog either in a bowl, cold like a punch, or make it in a shaker. For my part, I prepare it minute and warm, in a saucepan and I whip it briskly before serving it directly into cups. It can be enjoyed in the afternoon with small cookies, but also as an aperitif.
