I think that since the beginning of September I must have literally made 2 to 3 kilos of this delicious homemade chocolate and hazelnut granola. 🙂 So I can tell you without any hesitation that this recipe has been widely tested, approved and refined… It is truly the best healthy homemade Granola recipe that I have ever tried!
At home, the start of the school year is certainly synonymous with going back to work and school (plus it’s a big start, since it’s my youngest’s first), but it is also an opportunity to get back into the kitchen and turn the oven back on.
Well, I don’t know if you’re like me, but personally I much prefer making my own granola at home because it is healthier than what you find in stores.
But what I like even more is that you can measure the quantities of ingredients according to your taste and add your favorite nuts and seeds!
If you are already a fan, I won’t need to convince you, and if you have never tried homemade granola, I really encourage you to give it a try because you won’t be disappointed.
Homemade chocolate and hazelnut granola healthy recipe
I have put here a chocolate and hazelnut version but feel free to personalize yours by using the basic ingredients of granola which are:
- oatmeal,
- oil,
- and a liquid ingredient to sweeten: maple syrup, agave syrup or honey. I voluntarily opt for a limited quantity of maple syrup but no sugar.
I then put chocolate, cocoa powder, hazelnuts, sesame seeds and chia seeds, but you can also put dried fruits (raisins, apricots …), spices (cinnamon, nutmeg …), walnuts, almonds, coconut, dried bananas, etc.
It’s up to you to be inventive and treat yourself!
And the best part is that it’s super easy to make! Just mix all the ingredients in a salad bowl, pour them onto a baking sheet, put in the oven and that’s it, it’s done!
To serve it, you can add a spoonful of almond or hazelnut puree and drizzle it with a little milk of your choice (cow or vegetable), I also like to eat it for breakfast in a bowl with yogurt, a small spoonful of lemon curd and some fruit like blueberries.
The ingredients you do need to make this homemade Granola:
The ingredients can be adapted according to your tastes or what you have at home, I explain everything below.
- oat flakes: preferably small but you can also use large flakes, or mix small and large. You can also use other cereals such as wheat, barley…
- hazelnuts, but you can also use other dried fruits or nuts, I have tried pistachios, walnuts, pecans…
- almonds
- pumpkin seeds, but as for hazelnuts, you can vary the pleasure and use different seeds such as sesame, poppy, sunflower, flax…
- bitter cocoa
- maple syrup, or even honey, agave syrup…
- dark chocolate
- coconut oil or another neutral oil such as rapeseed, grape seed, hazelnut oil can also be used but it generally does not like cooking…
