I made this candied onion with red onion, I find that its slightly sweet taste is very pleasant in this recipe, if you wish, you can also make it with shallots.
It keeps very well in an airtight jar in the refrigerator so don’t hesitate to prepare it a few days in advance to simplify preparations, it will be even better.

Red Onion Confit Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 red onion
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Cut the onion into thin slices and brown it in the butter. When it starts to be transparent, add the brown sugar then the balsamic vinegar.
- Reduce then pour into an airtight jar.
