Here is a simple cheese béchamel sauce recipe. This French recipe will be useful as a base sauce in many recipes like lasagna, pasta, savory pancakes, etc.
This recipe consists of a classic béchamel sauce to which we add our favorite cheese. For me it will most often be pecorino, parmesan, or even freshly grated Comté. You will need to add it delicately while stirring so that it mixes well with the sauce.
For my part, I also like to add a little garlic and sometimes a touch of mustard, I find that it gives more character to my béchamels.

What ingredients do you need to make this homemade cheese béchamel sauce recipe?
- soft butter
- of flour
- whole milk if you have it
- freshly grated parmesan or pecorino, Comté, Emmental, etc.
- salt and pepper
- ground nutmeg
- fresh pressed or granulated garlic if you like that
- mustard if you want, it adds a little more character.

Cheese Béchamel Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- 50 g de beurre doux
- 70 g de farine
- 1 gousse d'ail pressée
- 50 cl de lait entier
- 100 g de parmesan fraîchement râpé ou pecorino, comté, emmental, etc.
- Sel et poivre
- Muscade moulue
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat with the pressed garlic.
- Add the flour, mix with a whisk and cook the roux for about 3 to 5 minutes, stirring.
- Pour in the milk (all at once), mix over medium heat, then cook until the sauce thickens.It should be very thick.Remove from the heat, salt lightly or not (as there will be cheese), pepper and sprinkle with a little nutmeg. Mix well.
- Add the grated cheese and mix again until well incorporated.
