Mango Lassi Recipe

Mango lassi, my homemade recipe for a fresh and ultra-indulgent Indian drink.
If you’ve ever eaten at an Indian restaurant, chances are you’ve seen the famous mango lassi on the menu: this sweet, refreshing, and incredibly delicious drink.
During our last vacation, we spent about ten days in Scotland and went to an Indian restaurant. I loved it! We ordered lassi to go with our meals and it was absolutely delicious; in fact, it’s what inspired me to make it myself once I got home…
Lassi is originally a traditional Indian yogurt-based drink from the Punjab region. It’s simply yogurt mixed with water or fermented milk, sometimes flavored with spices. It can be sweet, savory, or even spicy, and you can also find it flavored with fruit, or even rose…
Mango lassi is very popular, and I think it’s my favorite. I find that the sweetness of the fruit pairs perfectly with the creaminess of the yogurt to create a smooth, fruity, and incredibly refreshing drink. It’s the kind of drink you love to sip ice-cold, especially in hot weather, but it also goes very well with a slightly spicy dish. The yogurt naturally softens the spices and makes the meal much more enjoyable.
And to top it all off, I love the touch of cardamom. And not just any cardamom! I’m lucky enough to have a colleague bring some back for me from Zanzibar. Believe me, it’s a real explosion of flavor! This spice adds a fragrant, slightly lemony note that completely transforms the lassi.
For this recipe, I used frozen mangoes, which gives it a slightly firm and very refreshing texture, almost like a smoothie. But you can absolutely use fresh mangoes if you prefer a thinner consistency. Gradually add more milk until you reach the desired consistency.
The result: a refreshing drink made with mango, yogurt, and milk, flavored with cardamom. Perfect to accompany a lightly spiced Indian dish, or even as a dessert or for breakfast.
Stay tuned… I’ll soon be sharing a complete Indian menu idea with easy-to-make recipes that will delight your taste buds…
