It goes without saying that I love making homemade French King cake and every year I like to try a new recipe. The 2023 galette (I still have trouble realizing that we are already in 2023…) is a Orange and cinnamon King cake with touch of ginger, we stay in the Christmas flavors and winter that I love so much.
And I have to tell you that I am very proud of this galette because I didn’t make it last year but this time I wanted to make my homemade puff pastry recipe in a quick and easy version.
I must say that this recipe is really buff and the result is very good. If you have never tried it, I recommend it 100%.
And I tell you every year because once is not customary, do not forget the bean like me !!! 😉 Because even when I took my picture of frangipane, it didn’t click for me…

Orange and cinnamon King cake
Ingredients
- 500 g puff pastry
- 200 g almond powder
- 2 eggs + 1 egg yolk for gilding with a little cream
- 120 g sugar
- 110 g soft butter
- 1 organic orange for the zest
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Place a puff pastry on a flat baking sheet.
- In a bowl, mix the almond powder, sugar, 2 eggs + the white of the 3rd (keep the yellow for gilding) and the soft butter. Then add the orange zest, cinnamon powder and ginger. Mix well.
- Place and spread the resulting frangipane on the pastry, leaving a border of about 2 centimeters. Place the bean on the frangipani.
- Lightly moisten the edge of the puff pastry with a little water (using a kitchen brush or your fingers), cover with the second puff pastry, and stick the edges together. You can form patterns by gluing the edges together, like in the photo below.
- Make designs on the top and brush with egg yolk diluted with a little water. Make a small hole in the dough in the center of the top.
- Bake for 30 minutes, checking regularly for doneness.
