What to Cook and Eat in January {recipe ideas}

Today, I suggest we talk about what to cook and eat in January. Yes, I know, January is the month of cold weather, good resolutions and warming meals. And honestly, it’s also the perfect time to enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables. Because eating seasonal foods changes everything and you know that’s kind of my thing!
First of all, it’s super healthy. January fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins and nutrients that boost us to face the winter. Then, it’s economical: we avoid products that come from the other side of the world (and that blow our budget). And what’s more, it’s good for the planet…
So what does January have in store for us?
When it comes to vegetables, we’re spoiled! Cabbages, for example, are the winter champions. Green cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts… They are rich in fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants. Personally, I love cooking them in soup, sautéed in a pan or in a gratin accompanied by other vegetables. They include carrots, leeks, turnips and spinach. Perfect for comforting dishes like stews or quiches.
Do you like squash? That’s good, because they’re still in the spotlight in January. Butternut squash, butternut squash… They bring a little sweet and colorful touch, and they’re also super versatile. A creamy soup, a delicious risotto or even a pie: they go everywhere!
And what about fruit? Well, it’s true that in winter, the choice is a little more limited than in summer, but we don’t deprive ourselves. Citrus fruits are the stars of the moment: oranges, clementines, grapefruit, lemons… They are full of vitamin C and are perfect for avoiding the slumps. In addition, they bring a touch of freshness to desserts or even savory dishes (like duck breast with orange sauce). And why not try your hand at homemade limoncello? You’ll see, it’s very simple to prepare and delicious!
Let’s not forget apples and pears, always faithful to their post. They come in an infinite variety: in compote, in tart, in the oven with (or without) a little cinnamon… A real treat for the taste buds!
