I made this Mirabelle Plum Jam while on vacation with friends who had moved to Niort to open a gîte. I’ll be sure to tell you all about it very soon…
In 2 days, we were like jam-making machines… 😉
4.5 kg of blackberries picked and transformed into 12 jars of jam and 2.5 kg of plums into 5 jars… We’ve been busy, but personally, I love it!
And now we’ve got enough for a nice winter season…
If you’ve ever made homemade jam, you know how satisfying it is. But if it’s your first time, let me reassure you: it’s very simple to make and doesn’t take much time either.
As for me, what a pleasure it is to transform these pretty fruits into a delicious jam that you can then enjoy for several months… and to offer a few jars to friends and family.
Mirabelle Plum Jam {Homemade Recipe}
How much fruit do you need to make 6 jars of jam?
Based on these two recipes, I’d say you need around 2.5 kg of plums for 6 large jars of jam.
What variations can you make to this recipe for mirabelle plum jam?
- You can also mix in other plums, which will also be delicious.
- You can also use vanilla beans, seeds, extracts or vanilla sugar when cooking.
- You can add a sprig or two of romaine. I’ve already done this with apricots, but I think it would be good with mirabelle plums too.
HOW TO STERILIZE YOUR JAM JARS?
This step is important for the cleanliness of your jars, but above all for the preservation of your jams. You need to soak the jars and caps in boiling water and leave them to dry on a clean cloth.
What other homemade jam recipe ideas should you also enjoy?
- Strawberry Rhubarb Jam
- Lemon and Bergamot Jam
- Green Tomato Jam
- Lemon Curd
- Rhubarb and Raspberry Jam
- Salted Butter Caramel
As you can see, I’m not short of ideas… 😉
