Spritz has been talked about for many years and I discovered it a long time ago in Italy because I have family who live in Milan, the city of the aperitif par excellence! Today I wanted to present to you 5 recipe ideas for Spritz Cocktail, but first of all, let’s get back to the basics!
What is a Spritz Cocktail?
Originally, it is a cocktail from northern Italy which seems to have emerged at the beginning of the 19th century. The wine being quite strong, we ask to water it, to cut it with water in order to lengthen it.
The name comes from the German word “spritzen”. Spritz therefore refers to a drink made from wine (red or white) diluted with sparkling water. From the 20th century, this water was then preserved in beautiful glass bottles fitted with a siphon in order to preserve the gas, seltzer water. From there, we gradually moved towards bitter drinks made from citrus peels.
And it is only in recent years that the Spritz cocktail has become widely used in Europe and around the world…

So here are 5 ways to prepare a Spritz Cocktail:
- Limoncello Spritz (the new kid with my homemade limoncello)
- Christmas Spritz
- Fall Spritz
- Aperol Spritz (the best known)
- Campari Spritz (my favorite for its bitter side)
There are many other cocktails on the same basis, like the Hugo Spritz made with elderberry liqueur, the Martini Spritz, the Vermouth Spritz, but… my favorite cocktail (yes, I know… I have it drunk several times writing this…) there is always the Sparkling Negroni Sbagliato, but be careful, this one is spicy, much more alcoholic than the classic Spritz!
